Pringles Find a New Home

The international popular snack, Pringles, found its new home with Diamond Foods. Procter & Gamble sold their last food brand for US$ 2.35 billion to focus on their household, beauty, and health care brands.
P&G had been the home of Pringles for 42 years. Scientists came up with an idea of potato chips that could withstand the long-distance distribution, hence the sealed pop top cylindrical packaging and the stacked slightly-curved chips.
The innovative potato chips formula is a mix of dehydrated potato flakes with starch and water, packed down into dough, rolled thinly, molded, cut into round pieces, and fried. Its name was inspired from a street in Finneytown, Ohio. It was supposed to be “Winkles” as suggested by an ad agency, but the then P&G brand manager opted for its now current name, “Pringles Newfangled Potato Chips”.
Pringles became popular mostly with teenagers in the 1970s because of its unique taste and texture. It is still popular now with its tag line, “Once you pop, you can’t stop!”
From its original barbecue flavor (with a red can), the delicious potato chips were sold all over the world in over 25 different flavors. Among the most popular favorites are cheddar cheese, ranch dressing, salt and vinegar, and sour cream and onion. Under its new owners, we look forward to even more exciting Pringles flavors.
