If you thought that there was no local food available where you live, this app just might prove you wrong. Locavore has versions for both Android and Apple, and works flawlessly(at least it does for this writer, on my precious Droid X). Set your location and you have a list of what is in season. Better yet, it tells you what is coming in season soon, with the estimated timeframe! Talk about planning your pantry.
Now, the fun starts. Tap the food, and it offers info, photos, how much longer until it is in season and where it currently IS in season. There are also links to Wikipedia and even here, at Foodista for recipes. Finally, if you eat something local, you can add notes and post to Facebook. Don't laugh! This is more important than it seems. If everyone would remind others that there is local food available, it would go a long way towards breaking up the misconception that local=expensive.
