Big Gay Ice Cream Truck Cookbook

May 3, 2011

One of the most recognizable food trucks in New York City will soon take the plunge into the world of cookbook publishing. Since it was founded in 2009, the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck has attracted an international following of fans craving their delicious ice cream creations. The Huffington Post named them one of the nation's "Top 10 Influential Food Trucks" in 2010, and have appeared on media ranging from Rachel Ray to CNBC.

Among their signature creations are a wasabi pea dust for topping ice cream and Salty Pimps (vanilla cones with salt and caramel, all dipped in chocolate).

The book will also include a look inside the world of owning a food truck. The owners tweeted "by the way our book isn't just recipes. I'll also share things like my preferred way to shoo heroin dealers away from your ice cream truck."

In order not to scare off potential ice cream makers, the founders went with an eggless approach to making their flavors. "Even the hardest recipe in this book isn't that hard," founder Doug Quint said.

The cookbook will appear in spring 2012 and will be published by Abrams. Look for the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck on the streets of New York City.
