California's Central Coast is facing losses of up to 50% of the grape crop due to spring frost. Freezing temperatures in April damaged the fledgling grapes, but the effects will not be fully clear until early summer. Decanter is reporting that early-ripening varieties such as Pinot Noir and some white grapes received the bulk of the damage. Depending on the severity of the loss, federal aid may be provided to growers.
