Cinco de Mayo

Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone! Today, all across the country, Mexican-Americans, and fans of Mexican-fare alike will be proudly donning their sombreros, dancing to mariachi, and quaffing margarita after tequila-infused margarita. If you're like me - just a wee bit unorganized - here's a quick how-to to help prepare for a last-minute Cinco de Mayo fiesta. Ole!

Step One: Learn the History of Cinco de Mayo

Dispel the common misconception that Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence Day and impress your party guests with Mexican history knowledge. Everyday is a school day. Embrace information!

Step Two: Decorate Your Casa

Martha Stewart, the goddess of all things home, has compiled this amazing array of easy-to-make Cinco de Mayo decorations. Perfect for procrastinators like me who don't have the luxury of time to order party supplies online. All of these decorations can be made with common household items, or items found in any local craft shop.

Step Three: Prepare the Food

Foodista is loaded with amazing recipes to help you prepare your Mexican menu tonight. Check out these great posts for Awesome Enchiladas, Chili Relleno, and of course, tacos! Don't forget to add margaritas, easily made 5-ways, as a finishing touch.

Step Four: Add the Party Games

What's a fiesta without a piñata? Piñata instructions and more, including games such as Find the Pesos, Sacks and Sombreros, and Mexican Jumping Beans, can be found at Better-Party-Ideas.

Step Five: Blast the Music

Bluebeat.com hosts tons of free playlists, including this great compilation of 87 Cinco de Mayo songs. Cerveza all around!
