This week, the Duke of Edinburgh will oversee the planting of vines at Windsor Great Park. According to Decanter, the project will be managed by Laithwaites and involves planting the three Champagne varities: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. This is a vote of confidence from the Royal family in English wine, which is already increasing in popularity. The first vintage is expected in 2013 and will be made into sparkling wines.
