As Sweet As Dulce de Leche

May 17, 2011

As a child, I remember my grandmother boiling whole cans of sweetened condensed milk to make dulce de leche (doce de leite in Portuguese). I would wait patiently at the kitchen table because I knew that once she was done, I would be rewarded with a spoon full. This is one of life’s simple treats and the easiest caramel sauce you could ever make. In recent years, dulce de leche has made quite a splash in the culinary world and you can find it already jarred and in a myriad of desserts. Try dulce de leche in these desserts or eat it by the spoonful (as I still do!). Whatever you decide, dulce de leche is sure to make your taste buds happy.

Dulce de Leche
An easy caramel sauce that goes with just about anything. I like it over my ice cream

Dulce de Leche Cheesecake
A change from the classic cheescake. The crust is made from almond cookies instead of graham cracker.

Salted Cashew Cookies with Dulce de Leche
A delicious balance between salty and sweet.

Dulce de Leche Ice Cream
If you want to be even more indulgent, I would drizzle some more dulce de leche on top.

Banana and Dulce de Leche Cupcakes
Banana and dulce de leche work together so well. Instead of peanut butter and banana sandwiches, try it with dulce de leche!
