Lawyers For Jailed IMF Chief: 'The Food Is Terrible'

May 18, 2011

The pictures of a well-dressed banker in handcuffs being marched out in front of cameras are plastered across the international press. Before his arrest, it was widely assumed International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn would be the next French president. Now Strauss-Kahn is facing charges of sexually assaulting a hotel maid and being held in Rikers Island prison. And French authorities are having a conniption fit about Strauss-Kahn's treatment.

"There are numerous very heavy barred doors that make a noise each time they are opened or closed," French lawyer Gerald Lefcourt told a French paper. Worse still, he said, "The food is terrible."

Someone really should let him know the food in American prisons is supposed to be terrible. Maybe someone can sneak Strauss-Kahn some earplugs, brie and a baguette during visiting hours.
