Refrigerator Where Joplin Tornado Survivors Hid

May 27, 2011

Our hearts go out to the victims of the recent wave of tornadoes throughout the country. One of those devastated community is Joplin, Missouri where 132 people died in a single tornado. An incredible survival story occurred in a local gas station. A group of people hurried into a walk-in refrigerator just ahead of the storm and survived as the storm roared over them. Incredibly, one of the people recorded video of entire ordeal and uploaded it to YouTube. There is little to see in it, but the audio is terrifying. The storm approaches around 1:20.

Then, a couple of days later, the same man returned to the devastated gas station and shot video of where they survived. It makes their story all the more powerful.

If you would like to help the victims of these disasters, please consider a donation to the Red Cross, Salvation Army or World Vision who have pledged to help rebuild.
