Man Steals $400,000 of Crab

June 1, 2011

Here's a classic riddle: what does a man do with more than 25,000 pounds of stolen king crab? Well, that puzzle has police scratching their heads as well.

Last Friday, a trucker arrived in Los Angeles and picked up the shipment of seafood destined for Seattle. Then, on Memorial Day, the man called from Oregon reporting some mechanical difficulties with his vehicle. The shipment never arrived and the seafood disappeared. A subsequent check of the man's documents revealed that they had been forged.

Police are investigating the incident, but do not have any leads. If the seafood were repackaged before being sold, it would be nearly impossible to spot that it had been stolen.

Apparently, crimes like these are not uncommon.  "This sounds like 'Miami Vice' or something," Andrew Feoktistov, whose company, Vitan Enterprises, owned the king crab told the Seattle Times. "It caught us by surprise.
