
The French drink more wine per capita, true. But in 2010, for the first time, America's much larger overall population actually drank more wine than the French. Nice job, America.
It seems our gimpy little economy is getting the spring back in its step and that's leading to Americans drinking more, and better, wine. More Americans have started ordering a full bottle of wine with dinner, rather than just a glass. And shoppers are busting out for pricier bottles than in the previous couple of years. Less Two Buck Chuck and more Opus One.
And in 2010, domestic wine sales jumped by 7 percent over 2009 and American wine exports jumped 26 percent, The Los Angeles Times reports.
