
The Tree Restaurant designed by Koichi Takada Architects is a Sydney eatery unlike any other. The Japanese restaurant features a gigantic CNC plywood tree as its focal point; the branches extend skyward and curve out to touch all four walls. The truck of the tree holds court in the prep area for the restaurant's conveyor belt.
The designers from Koichi Takada Architects say that the Tree Restaurant's stunning arboreal art is meant to recreate the Japanese cherry blossom festival. "Dining under the cherry blossom trees is a social gathering that celebrates the arrival of spring," reads the architects' Web description of the project. "This concept not only represents the serving of Japanese cuisines, but also hopes to capture a symbolic place for the locals to gather and dine under 'one big tree.'"
