Cuban sandwiches were created to cater to the tastes of Cuban immigrant workers in Florida. The sandwich's popularity spread from Key West to Tampa, and eventually ended up in Miami. MSN included the Cuban sandwich on their list of the "15 Most Essential Sandwiches." For purists, the intergrity of the sandwich starts with Cuban bread. The bread is similar to a French baguette but with added fat in the form of butter or lard. Then you must add the other ingredients in layers. This is a mighty sandwich where each ingredients has their own strong personality. Just try one and you'll find out.
