Rebecca Lang's new book, Quick-Fix Southern, promises Southern style cooking in 30 minutes or less. Southern food and quick cooking do not exactly go hand in hand. When we think of Southern cuisine, we often imagine low and slow barbecue or a large pot of gumbo. This book does not include quick versionsof those recipes so please do not expect to find them here.
The book has 115 recipes covered within 11 chapters. The chapters divided into themes including breakfast, picnics, tailgate parties, Southern sweets, and more. You will find many authentic recipes like shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, and pimento cheese. However, you will also stumble upon not-so-southern recipes with a down home twist such as butter-bean and bacon hummus, soft catfish tacos, and tomato panzenella.
The one drawback to this book is that there are no photos of the dishes. I am surprised that the editors would include pictures of the produce and not of the recipes. This book is perfect for people who lead busy lives but still want to eat southern-inspired cuisine.
