Freegans are starting a vocal campaign against Trader Joe's for what they feel are wasteful company policies. Los Angeles filmmaker Jeremy Seifert, who already has a dumpster-diving documentary under his belt, is leading the charge, penning a petition and posting it on Change.org. The petition implores Trader Joe's to donate its non-expired food to food banks and local charities instead of tossing it in a dumpster.
Seifert acknowledges that Trader Joe's is already getting a lot right -- and that's why the grocery store chain should push even further to adopt a "zero food waste" policy. "It seems appropriate to start with a company that people assume is already doing the right thing," he wrote. "Trader Joe's needs to take a leadership role on food waste."
