A signature Italian sauce, pesto hails from Genoa, located in the Northwestern corner of the country on the Ligurian Sea, directly south of Milan. Traditional pesto, known as alla Genovese, always includes basil, garlic, olive oil, pine nuts and hard, salty cheese (like Parmigiano Reggiano).
Super tasty ways to use pesto:
+ Thin with a little extra olive oil and for an excellent pasta sauce - hot or cold
+ Spread on slices of bread, top with provolone cheese and slices of turkey breast for a super tasty panino sandwich
+ Use instead of pizza sauce for an extra flavorful kick
