
This classic Southern dish is a great way to bring in the tomato season. Tart green tomatoes are coated in a cornmeal crust and then fried until golden brown. The tomato softens and almost sweetens during the cooking process. Fried green tomatoes can be served with tomato sauce, as part of a BLT, or as is. However you choose to serve it, it is a must-make dish this summer.
Ingredients:
4 large green tomatoes
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup bread crumbs
2 teaspoons coarse kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 quart vegetable oil for frying
