Sun dried tomatoes can cost a pretty penny in the grocery store; but, while tomatoes are cheap and in season, you should make your own sun-dried tomatoes. There are two methods used to dry tomatoes. The first is to line a cookie sheet and dry them outside. Make sure that you have fine mesh cover over your tomatoes to protect them from leaves, pollen, insects etc...The other method is to bake them in the oven at 250 F for 1 1/2 to 6 hours, depending on how dry you want them. Take advantage of the tomato season and make sun-dried tomatoes.
