PETA Advocates for All-Vegan Mars

August 19, 2011

PETA is setting its herbivorous aspirations beyond Earth and into the solar system, specifically campaigning for an all-vegan Mars. PETA sent a letter to Elon Musk, the founder and chief executive officer of SpaceX, to advocate for an all-vegan civilization once the rocket company's plans to create a Mars colony come to fruition.

"We can get off on the right foot on our new biosphere by ensuring that SpaceX crafts traveling to Mars are stocked only with vegan food and that Mars' colonists commit to enjoying an animal-free diet once they've arrived," the letter from PETA president Ingrid Newkirk read. Surprisingly, Musk seemed receptive to PETA's plan, indicating that early Mars colonists would likely require a mostly plant-based diet due to the logistics of raising farm animals on another planet.
