The Lean Plate Lets You Aerate Toast Easily

September 23, 2011

Some people aerate their toast by standing it up, which allows the toast to crisp up rather than become soggy, and the Lean plate by Jon Liow facilitates this process. The rectangular plate features two raised ridges with which the user can prop up his toast.

"Anyone who has caught on to this practice knows how hard it can sometimes be to stand two slices of toast up on the slippery surface of a clean plate," writes Liow. As of now, the Lean plate is a full-scale prototype; would you purchase one if it were available for sale?

That is what toast racks are for. Why the need to reinvent a more awkward version of something that has been around since the 1700's?
