Aside from making refreshing lemonades, the highly acidic lemon can actually be useful in many ways. Lemons are naturally antibacterial, cleansing both our bodies (inside and out) as well as our homes. Cris Carl from Networx.com shares other uses of lemon in the kitchen:
Polish Brass and Copper
Use half slice of lemon and salt to scrub discoloration of real brass (not brass-plated) furniture and things, and copper items like pots.
Put a Shine on Chrome
Shine chrome faucets (or even chrome parts of older model cars) with lemon and salt.
Kill Germs and Stains
Diluted lemon juice can clean stains and kill germs from cutting boards. Rub the juice on the stain until it fades and leave it overnight.
Clean Grout
Scrub grout with lemon juice and an old toothbrush.
Remove Odors
Three quarters of water with two tablespoons of lemon juice can clean your microwave and remove odors. Just place the water with lemon juice inside the microwave, and heat to boiling. Let it stay inside for 10 more minutes, then wipe away food particles with dry clean cloth.
Clean Countertops
Dilute lemon juice with water in a spray bottle for cleaning laminate kitchen and bar counter tops.
BBQ Grill and Grate Cleaner
Lemon juice and salt makes an awesome scrub for grills and grates.
Plastic Container Cleaner
Dilute lemon juice and soak plastic food containers to remove odors and stains. Scrub with baking soda to clean.
Garbage Can Sanitizer
Pour a gallon of hot water with half cup of lemon juice down the drain to sanitize your garbage disposal.
Cut Grease
A couple of drops of lemon juice to your dish soap enhance grease-removal ability.
Freshen Your Refrigerator
Half slice of lemon on a saucer stored inside your refrigerator helps remove odor.
Remove Food Smells From Hands
Remove food smells from your hands with a water and lemon juice solution.
Unclog Drains
Unclog drains with baking soda, then lemon juice.
Clean Tea and Coffee Pots
Boil lemon slices on tea kettles and coffee pots to clean mineral build-ups.
