This meat vending machine is the latest retail installation at the Lil Mart convenience store in Odenville, Alabama. Smart Butcher, a Birmingham-based company, developed the unusual vending machine, which dispenses steaks, sausages, pork tenderloin and other fresh cuts of meat in the same way that you'd buy a soda.
The meat vending machine is equipped with technology that alerts Smart Butcher when it needs to be restocked. "The idea is to place it in areas that do not have sufficient demand for a high-quality meat market but has [sic] enough of a demand to support a high-quality vending machine," said Robert Robicheaux, a professor of marketing and retailing at UAB.
