PETA Stunt Rejected By Texas Town

November 20, 2011

Popular instigators PETA asked the residents of the tiny Texas town of Turkey to change their name to Tofurky, but the move was rejected by town residents.

"Thanksgiving is murder on turkeys," said PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "By changing its name to 'Tofurky,' Turkey would send a clear message that delicious, savory mock meat is an easy way to celebrate without causing suffering-and give a bird something to be thankful for."

PETA offered to treat residents of the town to a gourmet vegan meal in exchange for changing their name, but the residents opted against it.

"We are insulted," resident Carol Redd said. "We like Turkey. We are proud to be Turkey."
