5 New Cocktails That Say: Good Health, Good Cheer for Thanksgiving!

November 21, 2011

I've begun to reflect on the week of Thanksgiving and how artisan spirits are often forgotten in the melee' that says the Thanksgiving table.

This year has been a wonderful one for tasting new and interesting liquors and this teaches me to reflect upon the good memories of the past and my hopes and best wishes for the future.

So, in this stead,  I give you my personal best greetings and cheers to you for a Happy Thanksgiving!

Five Thanksgiving Cocktails to wow your palate

1. Tip of the Hat Historical Punch

Ingredients:

2 Shots- Rare Wine Company- New York Style-Madeira

1/4 cup Fresh lime juice

1/4 cup Fresh Pineapple juice

1/2 Shot Tuthilltown White Whiskey

1 Medicine dropper of Bitter End Mexican Mole' Bitters

Preparation:

In a cocktail shaker fill 1/2 with ice

Add all ingredients

Shake and strain into teacups.  (Why teacups? So no one can see you get smashed at the dinner table.  Your guests will think you're just drinking tea!)

2. Bluewater Elixir

Ingredients:

2 Shots- Bluewater USDA Certified Organic Vodka

1 Shot-  Chartreuse VEP

Mix together in cocktail shaker with ice.

Pour into a shot glass and drink quickly.  (See? You feel better already!)

3. Hot Chocolate/Bourbon/Snap Toddy (makes a few nice warming drinks)

Ingredients:

4 Shots USDA Certified Organic Snap

3 Shots Tuthilltown Rye Whiskey

Pot of hot chocolate (Your choice)

Royal Rose Syrup of Autumn Plum

Preparation:

Make a pot of hot chocolate- I like using part bitter/part sweet chocolate

Add the Snap and then the Rye

Let combine for a few minutes and then test for sweetness.  Add Autumn Plum syrup to taste

Enjoy in heated mugs!

4. Bourbon Whiskey over Whiskey Disks

This one is so very easy... Freeze a couple of soapstone Whiskey Disks in the freezer.  Add to your favorite glass.  Pour a healthy shot of something Bourbon and intoxicating over them.

Sip and enjoy without ice!

5. Sunshine Smash

Ingredients:

2 Shots Abuelo 7 year Rum

2 Shots Abuelo 12 year Rum

Bitter End Thai Bitters  (about a medicine dropper full.. Be very careful with this stuff!)

1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice

4 Tbs. Royal Rose Cardamom-Clove Syrup

Fresh mint

Seltzer Water

Scraping of fresh nutmeg for garnish

Preparation:

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker 1/2 filled with ice

Shake and strain into a tall rocks glass with a couple cubes of Coconut Water ice *yes, ice made with coconut water instead of plain water*

Slap some fresh mint into each glass *put a piece of mint in the palm of your hand and slap the other onto it*

Top with Seltzer Water

Scrape some fresh nutmeg over the top

Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving!

My favorite before dinner drink is simple: Captain Morgan spiced rum and OJ.

To relax later, or warm up, it's similar to your Hot Chocolate Toddy. It's called a Leprechaun's Dream:

1 oz Frangelico
2 oz Bailey's Irish cream
Hot chocolate
Whipped cream

Pour liqueurs into an Irish coffee or other cup.
Fill with good quality hot chocolate.
Add plenty of whipped cream.
