Largest Rooftop Garden Takes Root In Berlin

November 27, 2011

Barring any last minute disruptions, the world's largest rooftop garden should be up and running in an old industrial building in the heart of Berlin by 2013. The ambitious plan would create a 7,000 foot garden (the size of a soccer field) and a fertilizing fish farm one floor below.

"The beauty of our plan is it’s self-sufficient. Only fish food has to be brought in from the outside,” says Nicolas Leschke, one of the three entrepreneurs. "Our intention is for this to be the biggest roof farm in the world."

The project will cost $5 million Euros.
