This beautiful butterfly cake from Cake Done Right is an edible piece of artwork. The gum paste butterflies are so life like that it seems as if a swarm is flying by. This project is geared toward the experienced baker who is interested in detailed cake decorations. Different shaped butterflies are cut out of gum paste and then air brushed a variety of colors. The intricate black lines and curves are hand painted with food coloring. The decorating alone took this pastry chef six hours so allow yourself plenty of time to complete this project (I am talking multiple days). Even with all the work, your friends and family would appreciate these stunning butterflies on their slice of cake.
