Tokyo, Japan is known for its many theme restaurants, and the Tanita Dining Hall takes a healthy bend by offering 500-calorie lunches. The experience starts at the entrance, where patrons purchasing tickets at a vending machine can also buy scales. (The reservation tickets were just in place for the restaurant opening last week, but the scales will always be for sale.)
Tanita Corp., which owns the Tanita Dining Hall is perhaps known best in Japan for its 2010 cookbooks that only feature 500-calorie meals. Customers can choose between two course options, each containing a main dish, soup, two sides and white rice. If desired, they can even consult the theme restaurant's on-call certified dietitian for advice on exercise and diet.

Japanese restaurants have all the fun! If only we had more restaurants like this, we have specialty restaurants for vegans or vegetarians, why not one that offers 500-calorie lunch meals?
