Gordon Ramsay recently signed-on as a consultant for Montreal eatery, Laurier BBQ. But it seems that Ramsay wasn't able to uphold his end of the deal because the restaurant has given him the ax.
"We wish Gordon all the best, but he's a big star and too busy to come to the restaurant," Danny Lavy, owner of the restaurant, said. "He didn't have the time to manage it. He hasn't been here since August."
Ramsay's name has since been removed from Laurier BBQ's signage and all other branded material.
"Gordon and his team have provided significant support to all levels of the business above and beyond what was required by the agreement, and we are rightfully proud to have contributed to its success to date," a rep for Ramsay said in a statement. "We have done far more than we were contractually obligated to and it is therefore extremely disappointing that Mr. Lavy should behave in this manner."
However, Lavy would like to differ with Ramsay's statements. Apparently, the celebrity chef was originally supposed to sign-on as a partner for the restaurant, but became a consultant instead when Lavy didn't want to give Ramsay the amount he was asking for. Lavy went on to say that Ramsay's team continued to act as though the chef was indeed the owner.
"They didn't understand our vision," Lavy said. "This is a local restaurant with a lot of heritage. We want to respect the clientele and deliver what they want when they come here. We got to the point of not being on the same page and having someone taking a direction we didn't want to take. He didn't understand what was important to us. He was the one who originally wanted to get rid of the original staff."
Lavy added that he had hoped Ramsay would have spent more time in Montreal promoting Laurier BBQ.
