Vineyard Views: Margaret River, Western Australia

April 10, 2012

While Australia's most famous wine may be Shiraz, the wines from the Margaret River in Western Australia illustrate the vast diversity of wines being produced in this country. Especially notable are the Chardonnays, which recall elegant versions from France's Burgundy region much more than Californian counterparts. And speaking of France, the Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blends (or "SBS" blends as they are called) will intrigue fans of white wines from Bordeaux

One winery that makes excellent examples of both is Cullen Wines, where this photo was taken.

Have you explored Australian wine beyond Shiraz? What would you recommend?
