Americans Support Doubling Food Stamp Value At Farmers Markets

May 22, 2012

The results of a survey was released at the Food & Community Conference in Asheville, N.C., showing overwhelming support for a nationwide program to double the value of SNAP benefits at farmers markets.

Additionally, more than 90% of those in the survey said they would pay $1.50 more each month for produce, to guarantee fair wages for fruit and vegetable farm workers. This increase would increase the farm workers wage from $10,000 to $14,000 a year; an increase that would place them above the poverty line.

What do you think? Would you pay $1.50 more a month, to increase wages for farm workers? Would you support an increase in SNAP value at farmers markets? Tell us what you think in the comments!
