Chinese BBQ Pork Pies are a Handheld Meal

June 22, 2012

These Chinese BBQ pies from My Kitchen Snippets are a handheld meal.  Sweet and savory pork is wrapped in buttery pastry dough.  Every component of this dish is made from scratch, from the barbecue pork flavored with oyster sauce, soy sauce, and shallots to the flaky pie dough.  Serve these hand pies at an appetizer for a party or as a way to use leftover meat.

Ingredients:

The filling:
200 gram BBQ meat (can be pork or chicken) - cut into tiny cubes
1/4 cup of green peas
1/2 thick black soy sauce

1 tsp of sugar - more if you want it sweeter
Salt and pepper to taste
1/3 cup of water
1/2 tsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp of water

The dough:
2 cups flour
