Eva Restaurant Pays Patrons to Put Away Their Phones

September 1, 2012

Eva Restaurant pays its patrons to put away their cell phones at the door. The Los Angeles restaurant has begun to offer a 5 percent discount on patrons' bills if they leave their phones at the hostess stand to prevent dining distractions. Thus far, according to owner and chef Mark Gold, about half of the patrons have taken up the offer.

The no-cellphone incentive is a much different tactic than more tech-savvy restaurants have taken; some have started using iPads for menus.
