Thirsty Thursdays: Old Fashioned

November 8, 2012

A classic Old Fashioned is a cocktail made from muddling sugar and bitters until the granules of sugar dissolve and then adding a dark spirit.  This could be whiskey, brandy, or even bourbon.  A slice of orange and Maraschino cherry usually accompanies the drink.  The Old Fashioned has been a popular cocktail since the 1880's and still is a must-have drink on any bar menu.

Ingredients:

2 ounces spirit
1/4 ounce simple syrup

Directions:

In a pint mixing glass, add spirits (such as Bourbon) and mixers

Fill glass 3/4 full with ice and stir swiftly for 20 seconds

Strain into an Old Fashioned glass over fresh ice

Garnish with a wide orange wedge and lemon disc
