Tantilizing Tempeh Sloppy Joes

January 12, 2013

Tempeh sloppy Joe's from Chickypea are a healthy way to enjoy this American classic.  Tempeh is a soy product that originated in Indonesia and is an ideal meat substitute.  To recreate this dish, cubes of tempeh are sauteed with onions and peppers until golden brown.  Then the mixture is simmered in a spicy tomato sauce flavored with chile powder, garlic, and a touch of brown sugar.  The tempeh sloppy Joe's are served in a warm pita and topped with sour cream and chopped scallions.  For full recipe instructions, click here.
