OpenTable Buys Foodspotting for $10 Million

January 29, 2013

OpenTable has purchased food photo sharing social network Foodspotting for $10 million. OpenTable hopes to use the app for crowdsourced menus, allowing users to receive photos of dishes along with email confirmations. It will also include photos of dishes recommended by other users.

"It really just broadens the experience and helps diners get the most of their evening out," says Matt Roberts, chief executive of OpenTable.

OpenTable and Foodspotting have partnered before in the past. Foodspotting users were able to book reservations on OpenTable and the reservation-booking website used the social network for photos on certain restaurant pages.
