Around the World: Sicilian Pasta al Forno

Host a traditional Sicilian Sunday Lunch with a homemade baked lasagna. This Pasta al Forno recipe was sent to Tessa Kiros, a food writer who lives in Tuscany. "I fell in love with it as soon as I tried it, and always eat it, as the Sicilians do, with a green salad," she says. "The recipe is very versatile, and it's delicious warmed up later."

Pasta al Forno Siciliana

- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
 - 2 garlic cloves, chopped
- 2lb 10oz minced beef
- 1/2 tsp oregano, chopped
- 1/2 tsp thyme, chopped
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 cup red wine
- 2 cups pureed tomatoes
- 7oz frozen peas
- 1 lb rigatoni pasta
- 51/2 oz thinly sliced ham, torn up
- 9 oz mozzarella, roughly chopped
- 4 tbsp grated parmesan
- salt and pepper to taste
