Nothing beats a good Italian grinder. Call it a hoagie, a hero or even a sub. There's no hard fast rule as to what goes into an Italian grinder. What it needs is a nice bread, a variety of meats, cheese, vegetables, and olive oil and vinegar. Eat it cold or toast it up. Either way, you've got one helluva good sandwich.
A good Italian or French bread
Iceberg lettuce, shredded
Sliced peperoncini peppers
Thinly sliced red onion
Italian dressing or red wine vinegar
Freshly ground black pepper
4 slices mortadella
8 slices Genoa salami
4 slices Provolone cheese
Slice bread lengthwise; open up and lay flat. Place lettuce and pepperoncini on one side, tomatoes and onions on the other. Season with olive oil, dressing or vinegar and pepper. Lay meats and cheese in the center and close sandwich. Toast in the oven or eat cold.
