How To Make Homemade Corned Beef

March 18, 2014

For some reason, we never seem to eat fresh corned beef until St. Patrick's Day comes around again. It's to bad, because it is such a wonderful treat.

If you can't wait for the salty, savory flavor of a great corned beef sandwich, then you will love being able to make it at home!

It's not difficult to do, you only need a couple of ingredients and enough room in the fridge.

Homemade Corned Beef

2 Cups kosher salt

1/2 cup sugar

3 Tablespoons pickling spice

Directions

In a large stockpot, add 1 gallon of water and the above ingredients except the meat.

Bring to a simmer and stir to dissolve salt and sugar.

Turn off heat and allow to cool until room temperature.

In a large container, place the raw brisket.

Pour cooled brine over the meat.

Cover and place in refrigerator for 5 days.

Turn meat over once a day to be sure it is evenly brined.
