Super Bowl Snack Time: Sweet and Spicy Candied Nuts

February 5, 2016

Super Bowl Sunday is nearly upon us, and the menu has been created. Along with all of the main dish recipes, sweets, and tasty dips, we also love to have the grab and go snacks available at every available place that guests like to hang out.. There is no reason to stick with plain old pretzels however. We love to add something spicy and sweet, to the menu. Both of those flavors go so well together, and they taste great with a cold beer. These candied nuts are addictive! They  are easy to make and you can make them as hot as you like. The addition of the smoky paprika is a unique flavor addition. It pairs so well with the sweetness of maple syrup.

We will warn you; they are addictive and you may have to make multiple batches.

Sweet and Spicy Candied Nuts

1 cup raw almonds

1 cup pecans

1 cup walnuts

3 Tbsp olive oil

1/4 cup sunflower seeds

1/3 cup maple syrup

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon crushed red pepper

1/2 tsp salt

Combine all ingredients and bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes. Stir after the first 10 minutes.

Pour baked nuts over parchment until cool.

Store in a glass jar, although they won’t last long.

After the party, use this recipe and make nuts to add to other things. Try them on the top of salads, and gently folded into your favorite brownie recipe. This recipe rocks!
