Frozen Food Recall: Please Check Your Freezers!

May 4, 2016
Schwan's Foods are a guilty pleasure that we occasionally have used over the years. Their frozen vegetables are usually much higher quality than anything we can find in the stores up here in Maine, and it's worth planning a few bags in an order once or twice during the winter months.
Unfortunately I received a recall notice in my email that I thought should be shared. Here it is:

CRF Frozen Foods, has notified us that six products they manufacture on our behalf are part of a voluntary recall. Our records show that you have purchased one or more of these products. As a precautionary measure, we are asking you to return the following products to your Schwan's Route Sales Representative during their next visit:

LiveSmart® Organic Super Sweet Yellow and White Corn (#807), all packages.
LiveSmart® Edamame in the Pod (#857), all packages.
LiveSmart® Organic Vegetable Medley (#822), all packages.
LiveSmart® Mini Bow Tie Pasta and Vegetable Blend (#767), only packages with date codes beginning with 2B.
LiveSmart® Super Sweet Cut Corn (#773), only packages with date codes beginning with 2B.
LiveSmart® Green Peas (#766), only packages with date codes beginning with 2B.
Date codes can be found on the back of the package in a box called "product identification code" or stamped in an area on the bottom right.

CRF Frozen Foods initiated this recall as a precautionary measure because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

To offer you the best possible service and support, we ask that you return the unused product with this email to your Schwan's Route Sales Representative on your next date of service. Schwan's Home Service will credit your account with the cost of the product.

The corn is a heartbreak, because it is a staple on my freezer. I use it in my seafood chowder all winter long. Please check your freezers carefully. This is part of a larger recall that seems to be growing exponentially as the days pass.

As a result of a recall that includes all 50 states and much of Canada, CRF issued the following statement in their voluntary recall:
"...This expanded recall of frozen vegetables includes all of the frozen organic and traditional fruit and vegetable products manufactured or processed in CRF Frozen Foods' Pasco facility since May 1, 2014. All affected products have the best by dates or sell by dates between April 26, 2016 and April 26, 2018. These include approximately 358 consumer products sold under 42 separate brands, the details of which are listed below. Products include organic and non-organic broccoli, butternut squash, carrots, cauliflower, corn, edamame, green beans, Italian beans, kale, leeks, lima beans, onions, peas, pepper strips, potatoes, potato medley, root medley, spinach, sweet potatoes, various vegetable medleys, blends, and stir fry packages, blueberries, cherries, cranberries, peaches, raspberries, and strawberries.
