Quick and Easy Banana Cake

Last night I wanted to bake something that was delicious, easy to make and appealing to everyone. Then I remembered the Banana Cake recipe that was a staple on our kitchen counter growing up. Once the yellow bananas lost their squeaky yellow peels to freckles, my mother would whip up a batch either that night or midday and there would be banana cake for dessert- but more likely for breakfast. I found a banana cake recipe on Foodista that is pretty similar to my mother’s own recipe.
Lovely on it’s own or with a chocolate cream cheese frosting, this banana cake is a hit!

His and Hers Molten Chocolate Cakes

Photo: Barisione
What is sexier than yummy gooey chocolate? (Okay, maybe a silk negligee but we’re not that kind of website). I’ve always loved molten chocolate cake – partly because of the oh-my-God-this-is-so-flippin’-good factor, as well as its neat little individual size. I got this Molten Chocolate Cake recipe from Marco Barisione’s Weblog and decided to jazz it up a bit with a lil sumpin’-sumpin’ special. I want Grand Marnier added to mine and Barnaby wants Scotch. Since they’re made in little ramekins it’s easy to customize, thus making your honey happy on Valentine’s Day!
All you do is pour the batter into the ramekins, add 1-2 tablespoons of the liquor of your choice (depending on the size of the ramekin and according to your personal taste), give it a little stir and bake as instructed.
If this dessert doesn’t make you feel sassy, I don’t know what will! Happy Valentine’s Day!

Chocolate Cloud Cake
I usually crave cheese more than I do sweets, but when my sweet tooth rears its ugly fang it’s usually for some form of chocolate. Specifically cake. I’ll look at Barnaby and ask,” Did you pick up that chocolate cake today?” Knowing full well that, of course, he did not. I just want chocolate cake. I never buy cake, I never make cake. Perhaps that’s some form of perverse self-denial thing, but whatever.
So imagine my glee when our friend Tracy made a glorious one for dessert the other night! The recipe she used, Chocolate Cloud Cake, was from Nigella Lawson’s book Nigella Bites. It’s flourless, dense yet light at the same time (hence the name cloud), and is pure dark chocolatey goodness. My apologies for gobbling it up before photographing.
Here is a simply fantabulous sounding Chocolate Cake with Yellow Beets from A Cat in the Kitchen. Yes, yellow beets! How wonderfully wicked to sneak veggies into a cake. Brilliant.
