Garlic can be parboiled if the intent is to freeze it for extended periods. To do this, the garlic heads must be broken down and the individual cloves need to be cleaned of their paper. They can then be placed in a boiling bag and boiled for 1 minute in already rapidly boiling water. Remove bag and plunge bag into ice water for 5 minutes. Now freeze.
