I made knishes once from a boxed mix, but there was no magic in that Manischewitz powder. I finally decided to try making them from scratch last year as a Hanukkah experiment. It took more time and effort than I expected, but the results were batamt - which sounds a little like Yiddish for "the bomb." In any language, they were delicious.

Living so close to Pike Place Market truly does spoil us. Brunch, being one of my favorite meals to cook and eat, has recently become a fun tradition to try new recipes and variations on the good old favorites.

Good cooking is largely about balance in flavor and texture. This dish is a perfect example. The brussels sprouts are your base. Kind of earthy, kind of bitter. When sautéeing, browning brings out their natural sugars. They’ll still be earthy and bitter, but also a little sweet- something to remember when you add the raisins.

I know I don’t need to tell you why. I mean, do people seriously still make French toast the old-school way, slice by slice in a skillet?

Yes, these burgers were a little out of the ordinary, but absolutely amazing. With bacon and cream cheese, fresh ground very lean beef, nice seasonings and lettuce, tomatoes and grilled sweet onions on top. You wouldn’t believe how easy they are to make, if you own a meat grinder. And -don’t run away- they are relatively low-fat!

This delicious pie was certainly worthy of such praise. It is frozen and tastes like ice cream. It has a great combination of strawberry, orange, and lime flavor with a salty pretzel crust. It is perfect for Cinco de Mayo or any hot summer day.

Puff pastry is just so decadent, and the filling is luscious. They're somewhat heartier than American "pot pies," since they don't include vegetables. If you want, you could easily add some chopped veggies into the meat mixture.

It’s just a twist on a quesadilla, making it into a casserole and serving it up like a pie. It’s also easily customizable. To add more protein for example, just crumble a veggie burger into the filling or stir in some diced tofu.
