Cottonseed Oil

About

Cottonseed oil is a vegetable oil extracted from the seeds of the cotton plant. It can be used for cooking although some question the safety of using it.

Cottonseed oil contains a naturally occurring toxin called gossypol, that protects the cotton plant from insect damage. Cottonseed oil needs to be properly refined to make sure this toxin is removed. Badly refined cottonseed oil is dangerous because gossypol can cause infertility in men and women.
