It's flavor is sweet, it has a flush of crimson against a pale yellow background. Cortland has a very white flesh and is an excellent dessert apple.

Selecting and Buying
Procuring: Cortland is one of the easiest "Mac" style apples to grow yourself, particularly good in USDA Zones 4-7, as it is well adapted to cold conditions. It is partially self-fertile but does better with a nearby pollinator - most other apple varieties which flower mid-season will be suitable.
