Saint Edmund's Pippin Apple

About

An old classic English dessert apple that ranks among the best for fresh eating. It originated with a Mr. R. Harvey of Suffolk, England, and was recognized as a high quality fruit by the Royal Horticultural Society in 1875. Though not attractive with thin, scaly, patches of russet, the flavor has been described as being like "pear flavored vanilla ice cream." Fruit is yellow-gold with large, diffuse patches of light brown russet. Cream-colored flesh is rich, juicy, and sweet. Ripens September to October.
