Mastic
About
Mastic is a resin exuded from the bark of the mastic tree, a member of the pistachio family. Mastic is chewed to calm the stomach, and gives a sweet, licorice-like flavor to liqueurs (such as Masticha), pastries, cakes, sauces and cheese in a variety of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines. It is also used to thicken ice cream and puddings.
