Karmijn De Sonneville Apple
About
Karmijn de Sonneville apple is said to be a fruit that 'won't win any beauty contests,' as it's somewhat irregular in shape, and may tend to have blemishes on the skin. However, it is an apple well worth growing for its robust (even intense), complex flavor when picked, and its excellent storage capabilities (the intensity of flavor does mellow as it is stored, but it loses none of its complexity, and is an excellent eating or cooking fruit. I have grown it in the Pacific Northwest, and was very pleased with it. I do hope to verify that it is a suitable apple for southern Indiana, as well, as I can't think of a variety I would rather grow.
