Colocynth (bitter apple, bitter cucumber, egusi, vine of Sodom) a native vine of the Middle East with an extremely bitter round yellow fruit, used medicinally as a strong purgative; and edible seeds which can be ground for bread or made into soup. Warning: overdose of fruit may induce intestinal bleeding or miscarriage.
