Featured Speaker: Greg Henry!
Photographer and food writer, Greg Henry, will speak on the Time Management panel at IFBC Santa Monica!
I started my blog Sippity Sup- Serious Fun Food on a whim. I was looking for a creative challenge. Which may sound odd because I have spent almost 20 years as an entertainment industry photographer. I’ve photographed a lot (a lot) of big name Hollywood stars. Big screen. Small Screen. No Screen. Actors, writers, producers and all. I’m not talking about paparazzi. I don’t have the personality to hide in the bushes. My photos are planned. We work in a studio. Producers, publicists and magazines are my clients.
But the thing about being “professionally creative” is sometimes you have to compromise your creativity just to fulfill the assignment. To balance that bit of irony, I started a blog. A blog with certain rules. Rules designed to balance my time and rules to keep me focused. For example: I’m a professionally trained photographer who used a point and shoot camera– held together with duct tape, for most of the photos on my blog. For me it works. I even find inspiration in the fact that my creative choices are limited by the tools I use.
Which leaves me free to focus on the food. I like fresh takes on the familiar. My recipes & wine pairings tend to be simple, modern and colorful, with roots in traditional styles.
This philosophy seems to have been embraced by the online food community. I’ve been a speaker at The Food Buzz Festival and Camp Blogaway. I’ve led cooking demonstrations in Panama & Costa Rica and developed recipes for major brands. I’ve traveled as far and wide as Norway to promote culinary travel tours. I was even featured in Food & Wine Magazine and The Today Show Online. I’m also working with Home Fries podcast network where I co-host a show on entertaining called The Table Set.
